| DORMANT...what a lovely word! Plants take a nap in winter, resting their roots, not worrying about leaves, needles, flowers, fruits, and cones. Take a quick look outside, and your landscape is probably dormant too--is it too bland? There are lots of plants with "winter interest" including branch colors, persistent fruits, grass flower heads, and (of course) evergreens. Take a look outside and make a mental note to add a few plants that look good in the snow next year! |
| "Living in Michigan" does not mean "can't use the garden!" Think about installing a fire pit this year, so you can warm up with mugs of hot chocolate while roasting marshmallows after building the ultimate snowman! Outdoor "rooms" are not just for warmer climates--with a well-designed patio, you can easily access the grill in all types of weather. Herbs from the planters (if you didn't do this, you should try it--it's great!) can be brought in and added to soups and stews and other comfort foods. Justin really enjoys designing things in brick, and has an expert eye to design the perfect outdoor patio and living space for your home. Done right, there's plenty of space for your table and chairs, grill, maybe even add some brick seating areas, a firepit, and perhaps a hot tub? Naturally, you'll need some plants around this new area, and Justin's plant expertise will blend privacy and low-maintenance, year-round color and textures, to both compliment and accent, while adding beauty and value to your home. Check out the landscape page for examples and other ideas! Let's make this the year of the patio! |
